Bishops beginning to bash Obama?

Michael Voris has another hard-hitting Vortex episode; watch it here

Mr. Voris hits the nail on the head with all of his comments about the evil of Obama's agenda, the interrelatedness of the issues, and the role the Catholic Church must play in combatting the evil. The homosexualist and abortion agendas aim to destroy marriage, family, and morality. Obama is ruining the economy to better enable the government to take control of many areas of our lives. Obama is doing his best to undermine the Catholic Church because the Church is the greatest obstacle to his success in undermining our country, our society, and our values.

But the Church will be Obama's worst enemy only if She will stand up and fight! Right now, the Church is fighting a battle within her own walls; She is assailed by liberal modernist progressives who want to change Church teaching on all of the issues Obama promotes. She is betrayed by some priests and bishops who are not fulfilling their pastoral calling, but instead are either intentionally leading the faithful astray, or are doing so by default. Some priests and bishops are simply too cowardly to proclaim the glorious Truth which the Church teaches.

There are signs that the bishops are gearing up for a fight, though. LifeSiteNews reports that "The U.S. bishops announced the new Ad Hoc Committee for Religious Liberty as a way to address growing concerns over the erosion of freedom of religion." In his letter to his brother bishops, Archbishop Timothy Dolan, president of the USCCB, notes, "The establishment of the Ad Hoc Committee is one element of what I expect to be a new moment in the history of our Conference. Never before have we faced this kind of challenge to our ability to engage in the public square as people of faith and as a service provider. If we do not act now, the consequence will be grave."

I applaud the bishops for taking this step. I am happy to see bishops here and there standing up for the truths the Church teaches. I think this is a good sign. Really.

But it's pretty late in the game. We're going to have to play catch-up.

Bishop William Lori, who will head the committee, is quoted in the LifeSiteNews story as saying that the committee will “address the increasing threats to religious liberty in our society so that the Church’s mission may advance unimpeded and the rights of believers of any religious persuasion or none may be respected.”

Unfortunately, there are a lot of "Catholics" who don't think abortion is always wrong, who think artificial contraception is a right, and who wonder why we don't just "live and let live" where homosexuality is concerned. So when we talk about conscience clauses and religious freedom, we are not talking to these "Catholics". In order for the bishops to be successful in their attempts to take back ground that has been occupied by the enemy, they must first re-educate their flocks. And to do that, they will have to re-educate some of their priests.

And to do that, they will have to be more united amongst themselves than they have been till now. Our Apostolic Administrator told me with a straight face that he thought "all of us bishops think pretty much the same way". I hope that is not true, because if it is, then the few bishops who think with the mind of the Church have a long, hard row to hoe.

Again, I applaud the bishops for taking this step. Thank you, Archbishop Dolan. Still, a committee is one thing...and words are cheap. We need action. I don't know exactly what that action might entail, but I know that forming a committee and sending a letter will  not stop Obama. I'm a sheep looking to our shepherds for help, protection, direction. I pray they will be able to provide it.

(Hint: Bishops, start with the liturgy. The new translation is a jumping-off point for re-educating the faithful about the importance of the liturgy. "Save the liturgy, save the world"!)
